Design Under Sky Proposes Elevated Park for Fate of Crook Point Bascule Bridge

August 14, 2019

RIDOT has recently announced plans to tear down the Crook Point Bascule Bridge, a historic landmark on the Seekonk River in Providence. At a cost of $6mil, we have to wonder what are the possibilities of this icon. For me personally I have treasured memories of exploring the bridge late at night.

Since the area was cleared and the bike path now runs directly by it does require an action given its exposure and accessibility (chain-link is keeping no one off the bridge). We are imagining a post-industrial aesthetic, basic materials artfully crafted, with none of the glitz that is on the PVD River Ped Bridge. Just a simple well designed (and planted?) bridge with the potential for a pedestrian connection to East Providence.

The path could also continue to the East Side Railway Tunnel as an additional connecting feature in the future.

The Shack Opens in Jewelry District Providence

November 15, 2017

“THE SHACK” is a new seafood shack/biergarten in the heart of former I-195 land, and adjacent to the Wexford Innovation Center under construction. A small transportable "shack" will be set in a garden of three distinct zones, diminishing in constructed materiality and recalling the coastal context of the project .

The project was designed in close collaboration with the Dune Brothers (the restaurant operators) Stay Silent PVD (Event Planners), JP Murton (Developing Partner), Fuss and O'neil Engineers, and the I-195 District Commission. More about the project here.

Director Adam E. Anderson Appointed to RI Scenic Roadways Board by Governor

September 13, 2017

Adam was appointed by Governor Gina Raimondo in July 2017 to join one of 10 other voting members. The boards was established in 1985 to:

- Establish, preserve, and recognize  scenic roads

- Protects - culture, scenic beauty, and natural resources for recreational enjoyment and education

- Establishes guidelines for maintenance and identification.

Adam looks forward to adding his perspective from a Landscape Architecture background to help cultivate the great asset to the state the scenic roadways provide.
